The Golden Rule For Getting Read
(Pssst. It Just Worked On You)
If you want to create a great course, membership site, or other type of paid information product that gets interest and gets purchased, you need to follow the "golden rule to getting read."
If want to create a great piece of free content that gets clicked on, read, commented on, and shared, then you need to follow the "golden rule to getting read."
What is this rule? Simply this...
Put as much effort into crafting your title as you do the content it represents.
Here's why…
If your title doesn't get your prospective reader's / customer's attention, then the rest of your piece of content doesn't even exist to that person.
Think about what that means...
-
If you don't get the attention of your target audience, then your target audience isn't going to consume your content, no matter how good it is.
-
If your target audience doesn't consume your content, then you don't get to help your target audience solve problems, achieve goals and enjoy hobbies.
-
If you don't get to help your target audience get the outcome they want, they aren't going to do business with you, which is what you want.
Nobody wins.
Your Title Is the Make-or-Break Element
Yes, your title is THAT important. It's the most-read part of your entire article or other piece of content, and it has the power to make or break the success of your content.
Let me give you an example to illustrate the point…
Let's imagine you've just finished writing a blog post about how to lose weight. And so, you use that as a title: "How to Lose Weight."
That title is descriptive, but that's about all it is. It's not going to get too many people clicking on and consuming your content, because it is vague and uninteresting. In a world where forces are constantly vying for the attention of your target audience, your message must shine through. Your audience has a very short attention span and, in order to be effective, what you offer must stand out.
Don't Treat Your Title as an Afterthought
Most people spend 99.9% of their time creating the content and then, almost as an afterthought, give the content a quick and lackluster title compared to the solid information they included in the content piece itself. You need to understand that if your title doesn't cause people to look toward your piece of content, they'll simply look somewhere else. Therefore...
Spend more time than you think you need on your titles.
When you master how to write content titles that capture attention and create curiosity, you'll see dramatic improvements in engagement, clicks, and ultimately conversions. Your content deserves to be seen—and it all starts with the title.
