Part 1 of 3
One of the keys to creating high-quality content is to make it unique. Even if you're writing about something that others have written about thousands of times before, you can make your content unique.
Why Unique Content Matters
You don't want to put out a rehashed piece of content that looks like everyone else's, otherwise your prospects have no reason to read or buy your content. If you create something unique, then you'll be able to stand out from your competition.
Here's the thing: people are looking for information to help them. You don't need to create a need. It's already there.
What you need to do is create content that is so good that those lookers come to you from among the available options because what you have to offer most fits what they want.
The Power of Your Unique Presentation
Now here's something else that's important: information on your topic may be readily available elsewhere … even for FREE. That's okay.
It's all about your unique presentation and process. Trust me, putting together content on popular topics that genuinely makes a difference in the lives of others will always be in demand when you offer a unique way of sharing the content.
Case in point – people buy diet books all the time even though the information in the book may be readily available in free form (blog posts, reports, webinars, etc.) online. That's why a unique presentation is the key to success whether you're creating free or paid content.
Defining Your Big Idea
So, the first thing you need to do is determine: what is the big idea or thesis for your content?
To determine this, you need only answer this question: In one sentence, what does your content do for the reader?
Examples of Strong Big Ideas
Let me give you a few examples where we fill in the blank. This content _____________________:
- Helps the college student lose weight quickly, safely, and without hunger pangs even when he or she can't afford pricey health foods.
- Helps a prospective first-time homeowner find, choose and buy a home that meets their needs and budget.
- Helps a marketer create a responsive sales letter for their information product so they get more orders and help more people.
- Helps someone who's never been to Europe make the most of a vacation to the French countryside (while staying in unique lodging, seeing sights that are off the beaten path, and eating well on a budget).
- Helps a first-timer choose a project car and restore it from the inside out to create a highly collectible classic vehicle.
Go ahead and do your own brainstorming to determine what your content will do for your readers.
