Part 2 of 2
The important thing to note in each of these three categories is this…
People Want Results, Not Just Information
People are interested in results. They're reading to get outcomes, not information.
What people want is to go from "before" to "after" in one of these three categories. That's what your content ultimately needs to deliver.
You must give your community a reason to keep coming back for more of both your free and paid content. That's why this is such an important lesson to begin with as you think about what to write about. Nothing will please the crowd more than helping them get the results they are after.
The Foundational Formula to Create Transformational Content
This is the foundational formula that I work from in creating every piece of content:
Current Place + Content Piece = Client Progress
Identify where your client is currently in the process of achieving her objective and then create a piece of content that helps her take steps toward it.
Note: The "step" that you unpack in your content will range from a tiny step to a complete step-by-step system. This will vary based on what kind of content you are creating, but the important thing is to help people take the next step. Speaking of...
Your Next Step
Brainstorm a list of potential topics for your upcoming pieces of content. Use these three categories as springboards:
- Is it a Problem that your customer needs solved?
- Is it a Pursuit, meaning the customer needs help achieving a goal?
- Is it a Passion where a course would better help your customers enjoy that interest?
The Value Test for Your Content Topics
As you start creating a list of potential topics, you'll also want to ask yourself if you can create information that helps people achieve an outcome faster, easier, more affordably or in some other way better than what they could achieve on their own.
If you can provide insight to make it faster or easier to solve a problem, achieve a goal or enjoy a hobby, then you've probably got a good content topic in mind.
Bottom line: determine specific steps that your upcoming pieces of content will help your target audience take toward a desired outcome.
